2002 Mexico Annular Eclipse
The 2002 Puerto Vallarta Annular Eclipse
On June 10, 2002, I was part of a small group that went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to see the Annular Solar Eclipse. After driving hours through the jungle to our viewing site on the beach, we were challenged by Tropical Storm Boris just off the coast. While we thought the eclipse would be clouded out, the eclipsed Sun in its annular phase set through a gap in the clouds. We were extremely lucky as the eclipse lasted only 49 seconds.

Waiting on the beach for the annular eclipse.

We were looking directly into Tropical Storm Boris.

But a small gap appears on the horizon.

We did not see the entire ring together. But did see both halves as the Sun set through the gap during the critical 49 seconds.
